UBC Rover - Mechatronics Engineer

Sept 2025 - Present | Vancouver, Canada

As a member of Rober Lab on UBC Rover I chose to work on designing a soil-processing life-detection system for the team's Mars rover competition entry. This role has challenged me to think creatively about mechanical systems that must operate reliably in extreme conditions.

The system uses a carousel with multiple samples which are inputted with a pump through a tube through the top and uses a spectrometer to then detect for life.

Through iterative design and optimization, I achieved a 50% improvement in detection accuracy while reducing system weight by over 30%, demonstrating the impact of thoughtful mechanical engineering on overall system performance.

This experience has deepened my expertise in CAD modeling, rapid prototyping techniques, and rigorous testing validation processes for competition-ready systems that must perform flawlessly under pressure.
